In 1954 the advertising agency Leo Burnett set out to “man up” filter cigarettes and an icon was born. The Marlboro Man sucked us all in for decades, but the science knew better. The case against smoking gained momentum as the medical facts stacked up steadily against the spectacular visuals of a lone, rugged cowboy.
The All Blacks stunning success at the 2015 Rugby World Cup has thrown up all sorts of superlatives - and rightly so. The best team ever? The fittest? The strongest? The most skilful? Is Dan Carter human? Such debates will fuel conversation amongst rugby folk for many years to come but only history and hindsight can provide objective answers.
