of anecdotes and statistics

Last year I had a chat with a cousin of mine about the benefits of a low carb, high fat, whole foods diet for endurance performance. As an ultra runner he was intrigued enough to give it a shot. Here's what happened…
"Its almost 10 months Donal since we chatted at home and I began the lchf way of life - it never ceases to amaze me (its overall health benefits and also some peoples continued skepticism). On Sunday past I went for a 5 hrs 30 minutes training run in the mountains (7am- 12.30). I had finished my dinner at 6.30pm on Saturday. After a good night of sleep I drank a litre of water before I left the house and during the whole time on the mountain I only consumed a litre of water. I felt as strong at the end as I did at the start and I could easily have continued for another 3-4 hours on an empty stomach if I had wanted. I sat down to my 'Sunday' dinner (3 scrambled eggs with a generous chunk of butter) at 2.30pm. Dessert was full fat cheese, almond butter, 2 squares of Lindt 90% dark chocolate, washed down with a coffee dripping in butter and coconut oil. On Monday I felt as though I had not been on the mountains the previous day such was the ability of my body to recover due to lchf way of living."

As legendary ultra runner Burce Fordye says in "Run on Fat" - "the anecdotes are becoming statistics."  Well, today those anecdotes are +1 thanks to my keto cousin.

Here's the thing. Whether you're out on the trail, hitting the road or rowing an ocean,  nobody else's performance matters more than your own.

What's your n=1?

My last meal of the day is usually at 7pm. The following morning on a coffee with double cream I usually cycle (race) 17km to work, work all morning then have a chicken salad with a ton of mayonnaise at about 1pm. When Im not doing that and get a little bored, I usually get up and lift a ton of weight for about an hour and a half then get to work then eat at 1pm.

I'm getting stronger every day (my deadlift is 160kg, squat at 120kg), I sleep less and there are days when i forget to eat.. oh yes, my last cancer check up put me as cancer free!!

thank you for Cereal Killers I and II Donal!!! this is nothing short of life changing for me.

cheers,

Jay
